Justine grew up around the same games millions of Nigerians play every day — Whot, Ludo, Chess. But the moment that truly shaped Gameathon wasn't a game night. It was watching his younger brother lose his entire school fees to gambling.
It wasn't an isolated case. Friends dropped out of school for the same reason — tuition gone in a single bet on an outcome they had no control over. Gambling shops in the area kept informal lists of students who'd dropped out after gambling away their fees. Justine saw it happen again and again, and it made him angry enough to do something about it.
"If people are going to stake money on an outcome, I wanted to build a platform where that outcome is actually theirs to control — through skill, not chance."
That anger became Gameathon: a platform where Nigerians can stake money on something they can actually influence — their own ability at games they already know and love. Whether someone needs a primary income or just a supporting one, the goal is the same: let skill, not luck, decide who earns.
Today, Justine leads the Gameathon team from Yaba, Lagos, overseeing product, operations and the company's fundraising and licensing strategy. The goal is clear: to build Nigeria's most trusted, most played skill-gaming platform — and in doing so, give people a real alternative to the gambling that cost his brother and so many others their futures.
